I just read this post John K made about 80's backgrounds on the Jetsons:
Jetsons 85 Backgrounds
This is of concern to me due to the obvious 80's influence on my film as well as my use of pinks, purples and violets. The funny thing is, this isn't the first time I've heard someone say you shouldn't use purple, yet I'm still not so sure why.
I guess you can't please everyone. I just don't see what's so wrong about using funky colors.

Yo,
ReplyDeleteI don't know who this John K dude is, but I'm sure his pink, purple and violet colorism is deeply rooted in his feeling like those are "gay" colors. If he was working on the Jetsons, he's probably in that conservative age group.
Just kidding. More to the point, I wouldn't worry about it since your setting is a night club. When I think of a night club setting, my mind automatically paints the scene in dark colors, mainly purple and violet like you've chosen.
Stick to your guns on this one bro.

theres a couple of totally sick stills on there that are mostly bright pink and purple with characters popping out in orange and yellow and it looks fantastic! John K is just a grumpy old lunatic whos been left behind by the animation industry
